The main difference [between console games and iPhone games] was that when you’ve got the player sat on a sofa with the big screen looming, you can assume you have an hour cleared in their schedule. For a phone game, you have to work with two minutes. With the watch, that goes down to 15 seconds tops, most likely, and then there’s the fact that one hand will be out of action.
That makes perfect sense. There’s still a time and a place for console, iPhone, and Apple Watch games, and they can all exist together and still thrive. Will iPhone games kill all console games? Absolutely not. Will Apple Watch games kill iPhone games? Same answer.
I think gaming studios like my Robot 5 Studios that exclusively focus on Apple Watch games will be in a strong position to take advantage of Apple’s latest gaming device. We’re pushing the limits of what’s possible with animations and interactions in our games, and I expect players will love our games like Blackjack Mini and Football Twos.
